About Us

Alyse greetingGreetings Friends!

This blog is part of my quest to find peace in the midst of the many work and life demands I navigate every day. Whether you are balancing, juggling, or just trying to surf the waves (or whatever work-life metaphor you like best), my goal is to illuminate the challenges and seek out strategies to help us manage the diverse range of roles and responsibilities we have.

I discovered my passion for studying work-life while doing research in graduate school. Or, maybe it was the fact that I started grad school when my husband was deployed, I had four young kids, and I was trying to get a business off the ground. At any rate, I love listening to the experiences of others and looking for better ways to manage the tensions I feel between my work and my life.

While I focus on the overarching theme of work-life peace, individual posts fall within one or more of the seven main categories that represent the major areas of my life: work, relationships, finances, faith, rest, health, and education. I invite you to take a look around to find helpful tips, practical information, new perspectives, and an encouraging community of others pursuing work-life peace.

I usually post 3-5 times a week. I also welcome guest writers who share their expertise. To keep up with my latest posts, you can subscribe via RSS or email. Here are a few of my favorite posts you might want to read:

My Biography

I am the oldest of four kids. I grew up looking out for (read: bossing) my two brothers and baby sister. Now I have four kids of my own, a husband, and a dog. And yes, I’m still pretty bossy.

2013-11-09 21.29.00 My family and I live in the Shenandoah Valley in the northern tip of Virginia. We love the beautiful nature and fascinating historical sites that surround us. When we hang out, we enjoy hiking, canoeing, and playing on the beach or just watching movies together and sipping hot chocolate.

Here are a few of my favorite things you might want to know. My favorite movie is Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. My favorite author is Henri Nouwen, although I have so many favorites it might change. My favorite meal is my mom’s from-scratch buckwheat pancakes. My favorite dessert is mint chocolate chip ice cream. My favorite person is Jesus Christ.

On a professional note, I earned my B.A. and M.A. in communication with a special interest in leadership, especially women’s leadership. I have been an educator for over 10 years. In 2008, I founded Write Foundations to help equip students with strong writing skills. Additionally, I serve as adjunct faculty for two universities.
